HISTORY

The town of Waldo emerged in the early 1800s as a bustling residential and commercial area. It is named after the physician, Dr. David Waldo, who bought the area in 1828 as part of the federal government's Louisiana Purchase. Small Businesses began to flourish, providing basic goods and services to residents and by the late 1800s, Waldo had made a name for itself as an entertainment mecca with its very own racetrack and an assortment of bars and dance halls. Today, West Waldo is still a vibrant community that is home to 3,200 residences and the many organizations and businesses that line Wornall Road.
